How Is A Breast Lift Done Without Implants?

How Is A Breast Lift Done Without Implants?

Many factors can affect changes in our bodies. While things like smoking or environmental factors can play a role, age is primarily the culprit when we start to experience changes such as wrinkles and thinning skin with decreased elasticity.  For women, a common sign of aging is the reduction in firmness and lift of the chest. In other words, the older women get, the more likely they will experience some degree of sagging in their breast tissue. Life circumstances, like pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight loss, can also lead to drooping breasts. Fortunately, several options exist to address this issue and create a younger, aesthetically pleasing silhouette.

Breast Lift: The Procedure

Your surgeon will begin the breast lift by making the incisions in one or more of the following places:
  • At the top and around the areola
  • Vertically along the front of the breast
  • Horizontally along the crease of the breast
After making the incision, your surgeon will then remove excess skin and tissue through the incision. The next step will be to tighten the skin and create a more contoured, lifted appearance. The surgeon may need to adjust the size of the areola and reposition the nipple to provide a symmetrical look.  A breast lift is an outpatient procedure, meaning you won’t be required to stay in the hospital overnight unless your surgeon recommends it. The surgery typically lasts two to three hours, depending on the complexity. The procedure could be longer if a patient requires more tissue removal or repositioning.

What Is Recovery Like After A Breast Lift?

After a breast lift, you may have pain, the worst of which should subside after a few days. Taking pain medicine prescribed by your surgeon can help ease the pain during this time. You may find relief from any aches or discomfort by using ice packs. Ice can also reduce swelling and bruising and help your body heal faster. At the recommendation of your surgeon, you may begin massaging your breast to promote healing and decrease discomfort. Applying an approved hydrating cream or moisturizer to your chest will reduce irritation near the incisions and the surgical area. You should see definite improvements and healing one to two weeks post-operation. During this time, you can return to work and daily activities. Most people recover fully from breast lift surgery after six weeks.

Breast Lift vs Breast Augmentation: The Differences

The primary difference between a breast lift and breast augmentation is the use of implants. A breast lift achieves contour and firmness by removing extra skin and tissue and raising the breasts higher on the chest. Breast augmentation uses implants made from silicone or saline to add lift and volume to a patient’s chest.  Some patients choose to pair a breast lift with breast augmentation. However, both surgeries are viable solo procedures for women who want to create a more feminine and youthful figure.
