What Is Pillow Face Syndrome?

The term “pillow face syndrome” is sometimes used to describe a bad result from dermal fillers and/or Botox. However, what is pillow face syndrome? Is there a way to avoid it? The experts at Sarasota Surgical Arts weigh in.

Pillow face syndrome generally occurs when the face is overfilled and creates a puffy look. This can be particularly noticeable in the cheeks and under the eyes. If this occurs, it will either resolve on its own as the filler dissolves or your provider can use hyaluronidase to dissolve hyaluronic acid fillers.

However, Botox cannot be dissolved or deactivated. Therefore, if involved in pillow face syndrome, you will simply have to wait for it to wear off over the course of a few months. The good news is that pillow face syndrome is not permanent and often treatable. At Sarasota Surgical Arts, our injectors use precise and slow techniques to prevent overfilling.
