Gynecomastia surgery<\/a>\u2014also known as a male breast reduction\u2014is a male plastic surgery that reduces a male chest that has overgrown to the point of resembling female breasts. This can obviously cause distress and if no other treatment options help alleviate symptoms, surgery is often the last option. Is gynecomastia risky surgery?<\/span><\/p>\n

Generally, no, gynecomastia surgery is no riskier than any other procedure. Certain factors can sometimes add risk, but in an ideal surgical candidate, these risks are not significant. The exact surgical technique may consist of liposuction<\/a>, horizontal incisions on the chest, or both.<\/span><\/p>\n

The average male breast reduction surgery is under two hours and sometimes as little as one hour. Therefore, the time under anesthesia is minimal and patients generally do not carry many risks from the anesthesia due to this relatively normal surgical time.
